Great news: the Falken EMS app is now available in the App Store. The app connects with the Falken EMS v3 and later using Bluetooth and displays a full set of engine parameters. It includes trending and helps identify peak EGT. For those who haven’t seen it before, here’s a screenshot:
The app runs on iPad and iPhone. As pictured above, on iPad OS it can operates in split-view mode allowing it to run side-by-side with your favorite EFB. The gauge layout is user customizable. The app works with the stand-alone Falken EMS and also with Falken FlightView and Astra installations with EMS hardware.
Logging Features
The onboard trending function lets you monitor cylinder and exhaust temps over the course of a flight, but for those who want to do longer term trend analysis the app also writes log files in .csv format that can be used in engine analysis systems including the popular SavvyAnalysis online tool. All collected engine parameters are available in the .cvs logs.
Demo Mode
For those who are might want to give it a spin but don’t have the hardware, the app has a demo mode. To turn on the demo, go into the Diagnostics page, switch to the Options tab, and enable the Show Data Simulator Option switch. You can then go back to the main settings page and you will see the Simulator Mode button at the bottom.
Just The Beginning
We’ve got big plans for this app. Right now it does a good job of displaying key engine parameter but given the power of an iOS device, it can do much more. We’re looking at expanding the user customization feature to allow for fully custom gauges and displays.
Beta Users: Update Now
For anyone who has been participating in the Falken EMS beta program and is wondering why their app has suddenly timed out: Apple automatically expires beta versions when a production version is released. Please use the link above or search the App Store for “Falken EMS” to install the production version. (And thank you very much for the feedback.)
